Good artists copy. Great artists steal – Pirates of Silicon Valley
Last night I saw Jobs. Before I say what I actually thought of Jobs, let me make it clear that I went with extremely high expectations and was looking something related to the Social Network in terms of class or how motivated it makes one feel.
(Spoiler alerts ahead)
The movie started off on a high note with Steve Jobs introducing the iPod for the first. This got me all excited because I wanted to see more of the start of iPhone and iPods and delve into the life of the Steve we’ve all seen in the last decade. But that never happened. The movie ended without anyone even using the word “iPhone”, perhaps Apple’s greatest invention. The movie was mostly well made with a few scene dragging on too much. The whole deal with his board of directors got a little boring. Steve Jobs was shown as kind of a big asshole but then his whole rekindled spirit and new attitude added a little spark. As for Ashton Kutcher, I am a bit ambivalent on which side to go on. While watching the film, my mind was battling between accepting Ashton Kutcher as Jobs because he totally looks like him and trying to forget that this is not a comedy movie. The crying scene when he finds out his girlfriend is pregnant was perfectly executed and filled the theatre with a sense of bewildered aura of sadness; shortly followed by Apple’s success and high value in the market. In short Jobs wasn’t gripping and lacked content.
When I found out that they don’t even show Bill Gates in Jobs the movie, I went nuts. I mean come on! You can’t find an actor with big glasses and blonde hair who looks like he’ll never get laid? I mean I can find one on Google images right now. So as soon as I went home, I searched other movies about Steve Jobs and landed upon one of the most amazing technology based movie which was released in 1999 : Pirates of Silicon Valley. The movie begins with Steve Jobs saying:
I don’t want you to think of this as just a film – some process of converting electrons and magnetic impulses into shapes and figures and sounds. No. Listen to me. We’re here to make a dent in the universe. Otherwise, why even be here? We’re creating a completely new consciousness, like an artist or poet. That’s how you have to think of this. We’re rewriting the history of human thought with what we’re doing – Pirates of Silicon Valley
This movie won my heart. It shows the beginning of both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and their ultimate rivalry when they both come to power in the infant computer industry. Seriously the actor who played Bill Gates was so good, I literally forgot this was not the real Gates. Being a TV film, I doubt it many people have seen this one thus I won’t ruin it with spoilers. Therefore I highly recommend you watch Pirates of Silicon Valley today and let me know what you think of it in the comments section below.
One of my best friends, Hamza, is a remarkable writer. Rather young in this business, in months he became one of my favorite authors. For some unknown reasons (mainly because he uses the sucky blogspot), he’s not being noticed as much as he deserves. Below is a re-blog of a short excerpt he wrote last week. I think it’s amazing how he writes. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments as it can really help my friend.
“Within the colors of my dreams, I feel the soft grace of your feminine presence. A presence that gave my existence an unusual joy. This slight intoxication I sense in the air once around your innate aura. Neither I nor you can understand the complexity of this juncture present between us. This blossoming of my feelings with the gentle graze of a crisp wind that blows through my soul, brushing it with your warmth. Your warmth that brings about a trance as I ascend to a cosmic island, far away, frosted in shimmering haze. My inner cadence booms as your name rhythmically jumps from my tongue and soars in the air. Here, where your delicate ambiance is the incognito to my despair. And in all these deep colors, these overflowing sentiments, I feel the soft grace of your feminine presence. And its because I want you around me, to mark the presence of my entity, I’ll close my eyes and let your steps be my guide because I have spread my dreams under your feet. Tread softly for you tread on my dreams.”

Ever felt like amusing the person sitting right next to you or wanting to tell them something they won’t believe but then actually physically proving it to them right that second? Well now you can.
It’s simple. Just follow the instructions to this anti-common sense experiment/trick that will leave give you one of those “I can can do something awesome” feeling. I founded this and other upcoming experiments through research and they take only 60 seconds to perform(including the time required to gather the material).
Making Tea in a Plastic Bag:
Imagine that you’re stuck on a Nazi Island with nothing else then a plastic bag, some logs of wood, a matchstick and the contents of some good quality Lipton Tea. What to do? Make some tea and calm yourself down.
You’re stupid. How the heck we’re supposed to make tea without any container?
That’s where I come in handy. Following are the materials required for the experiment:
1. An average size Polythene/Plastic Bag. Thinner the better.
2. Tap Water
3. A Kitchen Stove
Fill the plastic bag with the water from the tap. Turn on the stove. Heat the plastic bag containing the water. After awhile you will observe the water will start heating up and eventually start boiling. (Caution: Make sure the heat is touching only the water containing part of the plastic bag, or else you will fail miserably and make a fool out of yourself).
So what Irfan. Whats the freaking big deal about this? Its just water boiling up!
Ok ok you are right. It is water boling up but the amazing thing about this is that even though its a known fact that platic bags deteriorate extremely quickly when exposed to fire, this charisma of a plastic bag doesn’t.
Hope you try the experiment at least once. Stay tuned for the simple science behind this one(which I am sure you smart people would have guessed so please feel free to post in the comments section) and for some more even better tricks to amaze your amigos.
